Saw this shot as I was walking in to my dentist’s office this afternoon. The leaves were backlit by the late afternoon sun and the sky was that deep Colorado blue. There are still a few flowers holding out despite the cold nights here in the Mile-High City. I passed by these today and was drawn in by the vibrant color. Here we have Molly (left) and Emma showing off their Hula Hoop skills at Gunther Toody’s a chain of 1950’s themed diners here in the US. I love the juxtaposition of the bright colors against the monochromatic floor as well as the blur of the hoops. It’s pretty amazing how sharp Emma’s face and hands are considering the shutter speed was 1/20 of a second. I am loading this shot as an example of a simple picture giving a sense of place. With the ornamental grass and the fleur-de-lis pattern of the fence, to me this picture feels like it was shot in the South (southern USA) – New Orleans or maybe Savannah. To enhance this feeling I applied one of the warm presets in VSCO and then applied some softening filtration in Snapseed. The combination of subject selection and intentional post processing is pretty effective at giving a sense of place.
I found some more signs of fall while out for my walk today. I really liked the contrast of the bright leaves against the shadowed grass. In this case the limited dynamic range of the iPhone camera worked in my favor. #VSCO #discoverpressgram #autumn #fall
I went with Emma and Julie to see The Wizard of Oz in 3D at Colorado Mills mall in Lakewood, CO. I noticed these trees as we were walking up to the theater. It seems pretty early for this much color. I have a feeling we are in for a long cold winter here in the Rocky Mountains. By the way, the movie was awesome, as usual – highly recommended. #fall #autumn #colorado #discoverpressgram
