Here is another study in texture and light. This is a fairly large rock with a relatively flat surface. The photo was made at mid-day, so if this had been shot in June the light would not have had any directionality at all. But as we move into fall even lunch hour light starts to get a little interesting. This photo was made using the native #iPhone5 camera app and was processed using #Snapseed.
I am loading this shot as an example of a simple picture giving a sense of place. With the ornamental grass and the fleur-de-lis pattern of the fence, to me this picture feels like it was shot in the South (southern USA) – New Orleans or maybe Savannah. To enhance this feeling I applied one of the warm presets in VSCO and then applied some softening filtration in Snapseed. The combination of subject selection and intentional post processing is pretty effective at giving a sense of place.
